The Halloween Tradition

We had a fun Halloween at the Smith house this year. Berlynn dressed Alice, from Alice in Wonderland. Dad took the girls trick-or-treating with Zoe who was dressed up as the White Queen and Cheryl who was the Red Queen of Hearts. Our cousins, Christian, Leila and Miaya also came to join the fun. Paris wore my old Cheer uniform. London was an elephant.

The holidays are so much fun, full of fun candy and joy. But, the effects of too much candy outlast the joy of the loved Halloween holiday. I can remember collecting as much candy as possible, filling a bulging pillowcase beyond its intended weight limit for use. This candy could last an entire year, only it never did. Now it's my kids who are continuing this eating disorder of a holiday. Every year, two weeks after Halloween, my kids get sick. It's always right before Thanksgiving.

I devised a plan that has yet to fail. My kids collect candy, I let them knock themselves out eating it on Halloween, then they can trade the rest in for money to use for a toy at the store. The more candy they trade in, the bigger and better the toy. My kids hardly ate any candy -by choice- because they wanted the money!!

What do you think about my plan? Am I violating the tradition?
