No, no, I'm not a Ricky Martin fan. Not really. But that one song just seems to fit my life right now! My life is nuts, Ricky Martin just sums it up well for me right now.
School started for me in mid August. This year I teach 10th and 11th grades. It's fun, but again with the crazy. I'll share a moment in class that had me bursting into tears of laughter.
Me: blablablabla (pretty sure that's all the students hearing, although if they would have listened they would have learned how to solve all the problems of the world, naturally).
Student A: ( I call on him because his hand is raised) What does the word crucible actually mean?
Me: (in my mind, "crap I know I read that last night but cant remember... um um um")
Student A: Do you want me to look it up?
Me: No, this is exactly what I'm talking about with the note paper I just handed out. On the section where it says "questions" write down your questions. Then when we come to it, jot down the answer. I'm planning on talking about the word crucible because there is a very good reason why Arthur Miller called it The Crucible (although I can't remember it, hahaha). When you hear the answer write it down and if I don't answer it please raise your hand or talk to me after class about any unanswered questions.
Student A: But I just raised my hand...
Me: (hmmmm good point, hurry call on someone else oohhhoohhh another student has his hand raised).
Student B: (after being called on) So do we write...
Me: (after calling on student B I turn to student A who has his hand raised again) Did I not answer your question (on purpose)?
Student A: Well...
Student B: (throwing his hands in the air) you just called on me! I raised my hand!
Me: I'm sorry your right, what was your question?
Student B: (starting again)...
Me: (noise in my brain) silence. What was that again?
Student B: (sarcastically frustrated, throwing the paper off his desk starting again) blablabla
Me: (I can't hear him WHAT is wrong with me today!?!) I'm sorry. Now what was that again?
Student B: (sigh) Woman! You are hard to communicate with!!!
Class: hahahahahahahaha
Me:(Jeremy? Jeremy? I know your in here! You told him to say that!) hahahahahaha!
Background:
I spend the majority of 2nd period holding a strait face, because 2nd period is a tough class, 30 boys, 4 girls. The majority of the boys are on the football team. Previous occasions have resulted in wall squats as an intervention. I couldn't think of anything else for this group. These kids love to distract the class with jokes on a regular basis. I use all of my "no laugh energy" in 2nd period. When it hit me during 3rd period I couldn't hold it together. I laughed until I cried. I can still hear Student B's tone of voice in my head, "Woman! You are hard to communicate with!" He has no idea.
Paris is currently off track so I've been bringing her with me to school. She absolutely loves it! She loves pretending to be a teenager herself. She gives my students trouble. They love it. It's been an absolute delight having my two worlds collide. The only problem is that I haven't been able to leave work until bedtime all week! And last week! Every time I even suggest going home both of the girls whine, "No! No!" Fine, I'll stay at school, work on the newspaper. A first year teacher could sleep at school and still have too much to do, minus the sleep! My poor husband has hardly seen a glimpse of me. He got up early this morning and made the girls and I pancakes and eggs. My husband is so sweet. He loves us.
And one last crazy example in my life. Last week was homecoming week at my school. Lucky for me (sniff out my sarcasm), my good friend across the hall is the cheer adviser. Everyone knows that the cheerleaders are in charge of the pep rally for homecoming. What does she want to do? Have the faculty dance a drill team dance! Who is she going to beg to do it when not very many faculty members volunteer (big surprise). Me, right, by use of shameless guilt. So here I am dancing in the middle of the football field next to a dude in a wig to, "Can't touch This!" In front of the whole student body. And yes we did have a kick line. You'll notice I purposely didn't include pictures for this particular entry.
Yes I'm Livin' La Vida Loca! Who would have thought dancing to "Can't Touch This" would be part of the job description... EVER! Good times, good times.
Tell me I'm not the only one publicly humiliating myself. You do that too right?

I love your stories! Everytime you tell them it reminds me of ME. We certainly had some good times in our short spat of roomatehood. How long have you been teaching and what exactly are you teaching? where do you teach. Maybe you should just email me rather than correspondence via blog. You are fantastic! Kudos for dancing to Hammer. I think you should post pictures or possibly even a video of the performance. I think I speak for all when I say it would be thoroughly enjoyed!

MC was quite the man! I remember wearing hammer pants! I loved the story! Keep up the good blogging!
Hi Charity,
I came across your blog and I love it! John and I are always saying how cute your little girls are. Hope you don't mind if I add you as a friend and keep blog stalking you!
Ps- Our blog is john-n-morgan.blogspot.com
I, for one, want to see a video of this performance as well! I need a good laugh at the expense of someone else for a change. Yes, I regularly humiliate myself, I fell down the stairs the other day, 6 1/2 months prego, and all anyone could do was laugh, not help the poor, fat, hurt woman up!
Wish that I could have been there to see you dance! You are a better woman than I am, I am a horrible dancer! Good JOB!
I love to read your blogs, I get the biggest laugh out of them. I guess to your expense on this one. I have a hard time realizing that I'm closer to 30 than 20 anymore, so I would find it strange to be in a high school setting and teaching. Especially through the moment that you had. Do you ever feel like it seems you should still be in the high school seat and wonder what your students are thinking? Well I guess we know a little of what they are thinking now don't we. LOL
I love ya! :) I hope I made any sense, I don't get much sleep anymore.
Hey, what a darling family....and you look like a total babe. I still think of you with short hair. I thought I would say hi. It has been 4 years since we went to the gym together. Happy Fall!
You always have the most entertaining posts. I love to read your blog! You are a funny Chic Charity!! I wish I could go back and have you as one of my teachers, I bet you are a blast.
